Bangkok, Thailand, 29 May 2024 — New data from Airbnb reveals a significant increase in bookings by Indian guests in Thailand, with a more than 60 percent year-on-year rise from 2022 to 2023. Additionally, there was a notable surge in interest during the recent Holi and Easter long weekends, with searches by Indian guests for stays in Thailand during this period increasing by over 200 percent.

According to Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports, India ranks as the fifth largest inbound market for Thailand. This growing interest among Indian travelers is attributed to the government’s visa-free policy, which has been extended for six months until 11 November 2024. Airbnb has shared insights into India-Thailand travel trends, highlighting preferred destinations, types of stays, traveler demographics, and more.

The surge in travel interest on Airbnb may be driven by India’s changing demographics, particularly a younger, more travel-inclined generation. Gen Z and Millennial Indian guests accounted for 80 percent of bookings in 2023. Given that India has the largest population of Gen Zs and Millennials in the world, it’s not surprising that youth are at the forefront of Airbnb’s growth in India.
