Russian Tourist Allegedly Assaults Pregnant Shopkeeper in Koh Phangan After Refusing to Remove Her Shoes

On 18 March, 2024, a hashtag (#) appeared on the Thai social media concerning the conflict between a Russian woman tourist and 8 months pregnant Thai tender in Koh Phangan, province of Surat Thani. The way the tourist is accused to be dishonorable with the shop’s rule of no-shoes and violently beat up the shopkeeper.

At 1:On May 27th, Mrs Satika, a 34 years old pregnant shopkeeper called the local police in Koh Phangan, Thailand and said that she had been beaten up by a tourist turned brutally against her, while she was working at her store that sells natural products. As stated in Satika’s post, the tourist who had been asked twice already in the bathroom to remove her shoes and put her drink out was a woman who carried on ignoring the rules. And after a second notice the alleged tourit was in turn, kick his right leg and get off the scene.


Satika submitted the video footage she had during her bits to provide an evidence when lodging the police report. On March 19th they managed to identify the tourist being the 41 year old Russian woman, who was sorry for what she did and gave explanations connected with menstrual problems. This is what she said. 


Her popularity skyrocketed on social media, particularly on Instagram, where her followers surged exponentially.


In the very beginning the police put the charges on the Russian tourist in respect to the mental and physical damages that were caused by the applications of serious force against another person. This incident is one of the cases recently occurred in Thailand where some foreign tourists were behaving not appropriate. It is giving rise to the public’s concerns over and the recommendations for tourists to be screened beforehand.
