Thailand’s Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, met with Formula 1 executives in Bologna, Italy, on May 19, 2024, to discuss the potential of Thailand hosting a Grand Prix race in the future. This meeting occurred during Theisen’s official visit to Italy.
The world’s premier motorsport series, holds races in 21 countries across five continents. The 2024 FIA Formula One World Championship season is currently underway, spanning from February to December and featuring a total of 24 races.
During the visit, PM Srettha expressed Thailand’s keen interest in hosting a Formula 1 race, highlighting the significant benefits such an event would bring to the country.
He emphasized Thailand’s readiness to host the event, citing the country’s skilled workforce, excellent facilities, and the warm hospitality of the Thai people.
“The Thai government is confident that Thailand will be ready to build the racetrack as soon as possible, by 2027 or at the latest 2028. The major sponsor will likely be PTT PCL, Thailand’s national energy conglomerate, similar to how Petronas sponsored the race in Malaysia,” the Prime Minister stated.
While there was no immediate public response from F1 executives, Prime Minister Thavisin remained confident and optimistic about the prospects.
