Drama Surrounding No Parking Sign Prohibiting Grab and Bolt in Pattaya Sparks Controversy

The prohibition of parking for cars and motorcycles using the Bolt and Grab apps in a specific area in Pattaya has sparked widespread debate on social media. Located in Soi Sukhumvit Pattaya 42, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Banglamung District, a sign with restrictive language has caught the attention of online users.

Reporters from The Pattaya News confirmed the existence of three identical signs near a convenience store, explicitly instructing Bolt and Grab users to refrain from parking in the designated area. The backstory reveals frequent parking of Bolt and Grab vehicles in front of the store, blocking an apartment entrance, leaving litter, and inconveniencing residents, according to witnesses.

Mr. Chandra Rakkhasen, a nearby orange “Win” motorcycle driver for hire, stressed the importance of fairness in the situation. While customers have the right to choose their preferred ride-hailing service, Chandra emphasized the need to maintain a 100-meter distance when waiting to pick up passengers.

As discussions continue online, local authorities face the challenge of balancing convenience, community welfare, and individual rights. It’s worth noting that Bolt and Grab are fully legal in Pattaya, but ongoing issues between traditional motorbike taxi drivers and mobile application services have led to a “gentlemen’s agreement” between the groups, established by Pattaya City officials, to only pick up customers a hundred meters away from regular taxi motorbike stands.
