The proposal to hire a private contractor was presented by Mr. Manoch Nongyai, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City, who stressed the importance of utilizing the accumulated funds for efficient waste management in the fiscal year 2025.

The approved budget will cover hiring a private contractor for 365 days, from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026. The total estimated cost for the project is 297,497,780 baht (With the fiscal budget per year being 144 million Baht), with the budget divided into two main components:

  1. Garbage Collection: An average price of 843.86 baht per ton, totaling 157,073,865 baht.
  2. Garbage Transfer and Disposal: An average price of 725.89 baht per ton, totaling 140,423,915 baht.

While the approval was a significant milestone, it was not without its share of concerns. Mr. Paiwan Aromchuen, Vice President of Pattaya City Council, raised a valid point regarding the use of the accumulated budget.

He urged the management to carefully consider the financial implications, particularly the potential risk of depleting funds needed for emergencies and other essential projects.

Council members echoed these concerns, stressing the importance of maintaining a balanced budget to ensure the city’s financial stability. They cautioned against relying solely on accumulated funds for waste management, warning that it could lead to a shortage of funds for future urgent projects.

The decision to approve the budget reflects the council’s commitment to improving waste management in Pattaya while acknowledging the need for prudent financial planning to safeguard the city’s long-term interests.
