Pattaya City Hosts Second Drug Situation Assessment Event

Pattaya City hosted its second “Show, Share, Connect” event to evaluate and address the drug situation while fostering community unity in monitoring, preventing, and resolving drug-related issues. The event commenced at 9:00 a.m. on July 16, 2024, at the Chumsai Community Office.

Mr. Banjong Banthuraprasit, Vice President of the Pattaya City Council, presided over the opening ceremony, which was attended by members of the Pattaya City Mayor’s working group, Pattaya City Council members, the Banglamung District Chief, government agency heads, officials, private sector representatives, community leaders, educational administrators, and students from local schools.

Given the escalating severity of the drug epidemic, the government has prioritized proactive measures to prevent and address drug-related challenges. This approach underscores the treatment of people with addiction as patients in need of care and emphasizes legal repercussions for traffickers through judicial processes.

Swift actions are essential to curb drug trafficking and shield vulnerable groups from the perils of substance abuse, necessitating collaborative efforts across all community sectors and stringent legal enforcement.

The drug crisis in Thailand has significantly affected youth and citizens, often exacerbated by ignorance and various risk factors. In response, Pattaya City administrators have mandated unified efforts among all agencies to alleviate and ultimately eradicate the drug issue.

Organized by the Department for Prevention and Resolution of Drug Problems within the Administrative Division of the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Pattaya City, the initiative aims to enhance the effectiveness of drug prevention and resolution efforts throughout 2024.

The primary objective is a rigorous and sustainable approach to preventing and resolving the drug problem, maintaining ongoing vigilance to avoid relapse, and establishing comprehensive operational guidelines in collaboration with various agencies. Ultimately, the goal is to forge a robust community network for vigilant monitoring, leading to a definitive and enduring resolution of the drug epidemic.
