Body of Thai Man Found in Sattahip Pond
Sattahip —
The body of a Thai man was discovered in a pond in Sattahip district, Chonburi, on May 29th.
Sattahip police were alerted to a deceased person in a pond in the Saemsan area around noon. They quickly arrived at the scene along with rescue workers from the Sawang Rojanatham Sathan Foundation.
Authorities identified the deceased as Mr. Pongthep Thongho, a 48-year-old Thai man. He was found lying face down in the pond, wearing a purple polo shirt and black shorts. The police reported no signs of physical assault on the body. It was subsequently transported to Sattahip Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Mr. Narisphong Naksophon, 37, the deceased’s nephew who discovered the body, was present at the scene and expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
According to Mr. Narisphong, his uncle had a mental illness. Mr. Pongthep assisted his parents in selling congee at a local market daily. However, on the evening of May 27th, 2024, around 9:00 PM, he left the shop on a pink bicycle and did not return.
Mr. Narisphong reviewed CCTV footage to track his uncle’s movements. The footage showed Mr. Pongthep turning towards Naim Sai Beach in the Saemsan area on May 27th, after which he disappeared. Mr. Narisphong’s family searched the area and eventually found the body floating in the pond. They believe that Mr. Pongthep’s mental illness may have led him to wander into the pond, resulting in his drowning.
