Bangkok Wants Street Food Vendors to Pay Tax, Set Income Limits Before Moving to a Permanent Shop Location
Bangkok—
On May 29th, 2024, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt and relevant agencies convened to review new guidelines and conditions for street stalls on public sidewalks.
Governor Chadchart stated that the meeting focused on evaluating the income criteria for street vendors and their tax submission requirements to the Bangkok government.
According to the new guidelines, street vendors in designated relaxation zones must have a net income of at most 25,000 baht per month after one year. Vendors exceeding this income threshold are expected to relocate to other permanent rental spaces.
Following public hearings and adjustments based on various opinions, the Bangkok Governor will sign the guidelines, awaiting publication in the Royal Gazette.
It is of utmost importance that street vendors in relaxation zones adhere to the new guidelines. This is not just a request, but a necessity to uphold order and cleanliness in the city. Vendors must refrain from obstructing pedestrians, and non-compliance could lead to the revocation of their right to operate stalls.
